# Calculate Kurtosis in Excel

You need to calculate the kurtosis of univariate data Y1, Y2, …, YN.

## Step-by-step tutorial

Excel has the KURT function for (excess) kurtosis.

Let's use the Titanic dataset, which contains the list of passengers for the ill-fated voyage. We'll measure the kurtosis of the age variable.

First we use Excel's Filter feature (Data > Filter) to filter out values where the age is unknown (i.e., filter out the ? entries).

Now we apply the KURT function to the age column to calculate its kurtosis:

The result is 0.1510.
